Modeling
In the initial sculpting, tutor’s tutorial showed that you could make the general shape of the body in maya before sculpting further. I sculpted the head separately, which caused some merging problems later on, such as the head and eyebrows not being aligned with the midline of the body, and the body sometimes not being symmetrical and the left and right hands not being the same length. For the clothes, I used masks to make the general shape – as the previous 2D design had the clothes layered, this was much easier for the mask layering
When drawing the mapping in SP, I had some problems with the baking of my model, so much so that it affected the final rendering and animation of the model, causing problems in the end. However, the overall result in SP was the one I wanted. I also found problems with the face and eyes when drawing the mapping, which I eventually solved with manual drawing and orthographic underlay.
